Dayko passed away, to put it more emotionally because he loved saving human lives more than he cherished his own.

The official cause of death for Dayko was a “major coronary myocardial infarction and acute respiratory failure,” according to the Facebook page of Cuerpo De Bomberos Ibarra Ibarra. The brave dog was just four years old and had been with the fire department for over three years.

A beautiful tribute to Dayko was posted on Facebook by the City of Ibarra Fire Department, saying he was famous for his excellent sense of smell and charm” and the beautiful relationship he had with his handler…

Hundreds of firefighters and rescue staff attended Dayko’s funeral along with their rescue pups and gave their hero a proper farewell.

Dayko’s family and friends said in the Facebook post on the fire department: This 4-legged friend gave his life in the line of duty. Thank you Dayko for your courageous endeavor.

The Ibarra fire department is working with several search dogs to save those trapped under the debris of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake last Saturday, which left at least 650 people dead. All humans and their rescue pups have paid Dayko their respects.
