Police Seek Information In The Case Of Abandoned Dog

It’s one thing to abandon a dog on the street, but to leave them locked in a cage to die is tantamount to murder.

And while not everybody might value the life of an animal, it is against the law in many states to neglect or abuse them. That is why this next story is so outrageous.

A dog in Enfield, Connecticut, was found locked in a cage and left to die by what police assume was his owner.

A dog is found abandoned

The dog, a German shepherd, was found locked in a cage, more commonly known as a crate, at the bottom of an embankment on the side of the street. Fortunately, someone found the dog before he had suffered too much and police were called.

The police took the dog to the vet

The officers who responded to the call took the dog to the vet to get checked out. And while he was dehydrated, luckily he had suffered no other harm. Now, the Enfield Police Department is seeking the owner of the dog to question them about why the dog was locked in the cage to begin with.

An investigation is underway

The dog was wearing a blue collar with a black clasp when found. The dog is currently being held at the local animal shelter while an investigation is being conducted. According to the police department’s Facebook page, the dog is not currently up for adoption, though the page promised to provide an update if that changed.

Why do people abandon dogs?

People abandon their pets for a variety of reasons, such as when they move out of the area, move into a location that does not allow pets, or have no space for their pet in their new home. Normally, a pet owner can turn their pet over to their local shelter for a small fee.

In this particular case, the owner decided to give the dog a death sentence by leaving him locked in the cage. Fortunately, the dog was found and is now recovering.

What should you do if you find an abandoned dog?

If you find an abandoned pet that is in distress or in a harmful situation, there are some steps you can take to ensure its safety. Start by trying to capture and contain it using either an enclosed space or a leash. Do not approach a dog that seems aggressive.

If possible, check for ID, such as a tag. If the pet has it, contact the owner to let them know you have found their pet. The situation may be no more serious than the pet somehow got loose and ran away from home.

Next, you should call the authorities. This can be either your local animal control or police department. Make sure you have the street address of where the stray pet is located before you call. If you are comfortable doing so yourself, take the pet to your local animal shelter.

Enfield police are looking for more information

In this particular case, the Enfield Police Department wants to speak with the person who locked the dog in the cage. It is pretty evident that the dog was locked in the cage on purpose, and the police potentially want to file charges against the person responsible.

Police are asking individuals with information regarding the case to contact Officer Ryan at [email protected] or by voicemail at 860-763-6400 ext. 1414. For more on this developing story, check out the video below.
